If you are weighing up jacquard vs woven scarves, here is the short version: jacquard is a knitted scarf, thick and warm, with a reverse that repeats the front in swapped colours; HD woven is a thin, very precise fabric, like a premium clothing label, with two faces that can be completely different. Two variants complete the picture: HD jacquard for a detailed crest without giving up the knit, and printed satin for photos and gradients. Here is how to choose between them for your club, school or event.
The four techniques at a glance
| Technique | Material | Colours | Suggested wording | Front / back | Warmth |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic jacquard | Double-layer acrylic knit | Up to 3 | ~15 characters | Reverse in negative | Very warm |
| HD jacquard | Fine-gauge acrylic knit | Up to 7 | ~25 characters | Reverse in negative | Very warm |
| HD woven | Woven polyester | Up to 8 | Fine lettering possible | Two different sides | Light |
| Printed satin | Sublimated polyester satin | Unlimited | Fine lettering possible | Two different sides | Lightest |
All four come in the standard 140 × 18 cm size, from 50 scarves per design. Fringes are included on jacquard and optional on woven and satin.
Classic jacquard: the terrace scarf
How it is made
Classic jacquard is knitted double-sided: two layers of acrylic yarn interlock to form the design within the knit itself. Nothing is printed; the pattern is part of the fabric. That is where the weight and soft handle of a proper matchday scarf come from.
What it can do
- Up to 3 yarn colours, ideal for bold club colours.
- Wording of around 15 characters, readable from across the pitch.
- A negative reverse: same design, colours swapped, so the scarf can be worn either way round.
- Simple crests with solid shapes. Very fine lines and tiny lettering get simplified by the knit.
It is the right choice for a non-league club, a supporters’ club or a Sunday league side that wants a warm, hard-wearing scarf in the traditional style.
HD jacquard: knitted, with more detail
HD jacquard uses the same knitting principle on a finer gauge: about 60 stitches across the width of the scarf, against 36 for classic. Each knitted “pixel” is smaller, so outlines are sharper.
In practice you get:
- up to 7 yarn colours, to reproduce a multi-coloured crest;
- wording of up to around 25 characters, at the same letter height as classic but with finer stitches;
- more detail in your crest, while keeping the warmth and negative reverse of jacquard.
Choose it if your crest has several colours or elements that classic jacquard would simplify too much.
HD woven: label-sharp precision
HD woven is not knitted but woven in polyester, much like a premium clothing label. The result is flat, thin and extremely sharp.
- Up to 8 colours, with very clean outlines.
- Two faces joined together: the front and back can be completely different (club name on one side, a motto or cup run date on the other, for example).
- Lighter and less warm than jacquard, so it suits indoor sports halls, spring fixtures and the cricket season.
It is the best fit for fine crests, small type and premium designs for a company or an event.
Printed satin: every colour, even photos
Printed satin is a polyester satin printed by dye sublimation: the ink goes into the fibre, so there is no colour limit. It is the scarf often sold as a “silk-style” scarf.
- Unlimited colours, photos and gradients included.
- Two sides that can differ.
- Light, and the least warm of the four: think of it as an event accessory rather than protection from the cold.
It works well for complex artwork, one-off events and tight budgets.
Comparing prices
Prices are indicative, per scarf, ex VAT and excluding delivery, and they fall as the quantity goes up. In broad terms:
- Printed satin is the cheapest at every quantity.
- Classic jacquard is the most affordable knitted scarf.
- HD woven and HD jacquard cost a little more, because they hold more colours and more detail.
Optional extras (embroidery, woven label, individual bags, or express production at +20% on the total) are added on top. The full tier table for each technique is on our football scarf prices page, and the configurator shows your exact price as you design.
Which technique for which use?
For a club or supporters on the terrace
Jacquard, every time: warm, thick and reversible. Classic if your colours and crest are simple, HD if your badge has several colours.
For a fine crest or a different design on each side
HD woven: the sharpest finish, and the only knitted-or-woven option that allows two different sides.
For a photo, a gradient or a tight budget
Printed satin, with no colour limit and the lowest price for the same quantity.
For a corporate gift or an event
HD woven for a neat, lightweight finish; HD jacquard if the event is outdoors in winter. To get your artwork ready, read our guide to putting a logo on a knitted scarf.
Try before you decide
The easiest way to choose is to try them. In the online configurator, you can switch technique in one click and see the effect on your design straight away, with a stitch-by-stitch preview for jacquard and the price updating live. Once you have decided, send your design as a quote request: a designer prepares a free design proof within 24 working hours, and nothing is made without your written approval.

Club scarf budget
A club scarf budget comes down to two things: the technique and the quantity. Prices are per scarf, ex VAT and excluding delivery, and they drop at 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 pieces. Add any extras, check the next tier up, and plan resale before you order.
Design a football scarf
To design a football scarf, pick a technique, set your colours, wording and crest in the configurator, choose a quantity (50 minimum) and approve the free design proof. Production then takes 4–6 weeks.

The best scarf slogan is short, in capitals and in strong contrast: about 15 characters on classic jacquard and 25 on HD jacquard. Here are 50 ideas sorted by theme to help you find yours.
